When you write for anything digital, you have to be clear, concise and engaging. In today’s fast-paced world, where users are generally time-poor but incredibly task-focussed, you need to get your message across immediately. Every word, every sentence must fight for its life; must justify its inclusion on the screen.
And the grammar of the web is search engine optimisation (SEO). Applying clear, concise messaging in a scannable format ensures your digital content is findable, desirable and shareable.
These are just some of the rules of writing for the web that will help you apply a framework for better conveying information online. How does your web content stack up?
I’ve been writing for the web for well over a decade. I’ve consulted to many corporate, government, SME and individual clients on the value that experienced online editing brings to digital content.
In addition to the regular contracting or freelance web work, I also conduct a web writing course at the Australian Writers’ Centre in Sydney.
